About Antler Baskets
                    Antlers are a renewable resource.
The males or "bucks" as they are often called,
shed their antlers every spring
and a new set grows back during the spring and summer
to be used for courting the females in the fall.
You do not have to kill the animal to get its antlers.
Many other creatures like racoon, squirrels and mice,to name a few,use these shed antlers to provide needed minerals to their diet
so you'll often find chew marks on what I use.
Whitetail Deer, Mule Deer, Fallow Deer, Caribou, Elk and Moose antlers are incorporated into my hand woven pieces of art. Each basket flows from the shape and size of the antler. Often I'm not sure what's its going to look like until Im done weaving so you'll never see 2 baskets exactly alike.
I follow no particular pattern for weaving
the colors I choose into my baskets.
I just do what I think looks good as Im working.

Everything from dyeing the reed various colors to adding the final beadwork accents
is all done by hand.

No premade baskets are used

NO Two Baskets are ever the Same

Some baskets can take up to 20 plus hrs from start to finish

My Version of Blue Boy

Woven using a 2 point white tail deer antler as the handle

 I selected shades of blue

ranging from turquoise to navy blue reed

along with a natural colored sea-grass for the basket.

It was stained a light walnut to mute all the tones.

I chose to accent it with a copper tone Concho,

blue pheasant feathers and a cascade of several different types and sizes of glass beads strung on a thin waxed linen cord in blue

with just a hint of gold.

It sits 15 inches tall and is 14.5 inches at its widest point

which is the base of the basket

The top opening (where youd reach into the basket) is 8 by 8 inches

$120.00 plus $15.00 shipping

this is a straight on view from one end of Blue Boy

The sides gently taper inward

as you go upwards  to the handle

Seen from the opposite side

It has a shape similar to the old fashioned egg carrying baskets.

Mountain Beauty Wall Basket
I love the color and textures of this wall basket. The blue/ black, tan, rust and dark brown tones along with the sea grass texture all remind me of the mountains.
Because the colors reminded me of the mountains
I chose a Mule Deer antler for the handle.
Mulies, as they are known, are usually found in the western states. They are similar to white tail but have larger ears hence the nick name "Mulies". Their antlers are shaped just a bit differently too. There is usually a split in the top tine that often will resemble a peace sign.
The accent I created is just as textured as the basket.
Using pheasant tail feathers along with cording in both a smooth shiny and a rough texture in black and orange for contrast I strung with an assortment of wooden, metal and faux amber beads. All the colors accent the tones of the basket. It is all tied together with a matt copper tone Concho.
2 leather loops on the back allow for easy hanging
From the tip of the top tine to the bottom of the pheasant feathers
Mountain Beauty has an overall length of 32 inches.
Width wise it's about 18 inches.
The woven body of the basket measures 10.5 inches long by 18 inches deep
with an opening of 4 inches wide.

Price for Mountain Beauty is $95.00 plus a $15.00 shipping fee
                 Rainbow Beauty
wears all the colors of the rainbow plus some.
With colors ranging from burgundy along with green, brown, blue and a touch of purple, this color combination will fit into anyone's home.
Woven of hand dyed reed along with
natural sea grass cording
it has a 2 point Mule Deer antler as a handle.
Rainbow Beauty wears a walnut slice
along with rust dyed pheasant feathers as an added accent

Sitting approximately 15 inches tall and 15 inches wide, she has an oval shaped opening 9 inches long and 8 inches at the widest point.
The sides slope inward as they move upwards towards the antler handle.

Rainbow Beauty is priced at  110.00
plus 15.00 shipping

Driftwood Dragon
I often use pieces of driftwood
as the handles for some of my wall baskets.
I found this wonderful piece while living in Arizona.
While I was working on it a Dragons head appeared to me
 hence the name Driftwood Dragon.
If you look closely you'll see his eye and upper lip curled upwards
on the left side of the driftwood handle.

I really enjoyed making this piece. It seem to create it self, almost like magic. The multi colors are deep jewel tones in earth tones
like I would imagine a dragons scales to be.
I accented it with dried grasses, tied together with an antler slice
because I would like to think "my" dragon would be a vegetarian!!!

Driftwood Dragon is 23 inches from top to bottom
and is 20 inches at it's widest point.
2 braided loops on either side of the basket allow for easy hanging

Driftwood Dragon is 97.00 plus shipping costs of 15.00
 Please check back often.
I'll be adding more baskets as I get pictures taken
Thanks,
 Kathleen
